What You Can Expect When You Enter This Space With Me

Updated: 3 days ago

Relational Psychotherapy in Birmingham & Online

Walking into therapy — or opening the screen to someone new — is a vulnerable act. You are letting yourself be seen before you even speak. You are entering a room where your inner world will no longer be carried alone.

So if you’re wondering what it might feel like to be here with me (a counselling psychologist) — let me show you.

This is a therapeutic space for those searching for clarity, direction, or relief from the weight they carry. A space where strength can take a breath. Where confusion doesn’t need to be justified. Where overwhelm is met with gentleness, not pressure.

Here, we go slowly — but deeply.

A Calm, Reflective Atmosphere

From the moment we begin, I offer stillness. Not silence that feels empty or uncomfortable — but a quieter rhythm that allows you to finally hear yourself.

You don’t have to arrive with the “right words.” You don’t have to make sense yet. Your feelings are allowed to unfold at their own pace.

We sit together — and there is room for whatever arises.

Listening with the Whole Body

As someone who is profoundly deaf, I don’t listen solely with my ears. I listen with presence. With attunement. With the body.

I notice:

  • the shift in your breathing

  • the way your eyes hesitate before a truth

  • the story your shoulders have been holding

  • the silence that carries more than any sentence

I’m not just hearing what you say; I’m sensing what you feel. Together, we co-create understanding — even in the pauses.

Being Seen Without Shame

Many people come to therapy carrying a secret belief: If someone truly sees me, they might turn away.

In this space, the opposite is true.

When you show me the parts you’ve learned to hide: the fear, the tenderness, the anger, the doubt, the version of you that’s tired of pretending — I won’t judge you. I won’t rush you. I won’t ask you to “fix” it.

You will be met with acceptance and dignity. So that even in your most vulnerable moments you feel grounded, not exposed.

Gentle Depth + Beautiful Accountability

There are layers that protect us:

  • stories we tell ourselves

  • roles we perform

  • masks that kept us safe

  • strength that started as survival

When you’re ready, we explore what lies beneath them.

Sometimes this means holding up a mirror gently. Sometimes it means asking questions that open doors. Sometimes it means noticing patterns you’ve grown accustomed to.

We don’t peel away layers to expose you — we do it to free you.

And when our relationship is strong enough, I help you stay accountable to the truths you’ve uncovered —not out of pressure, but out of love for the person you’re becoming.

Integrating Insight into Daily Life

Therapy doesn’t end when the session does. Often, insight continues to simmer afterward.

Where appropriate, I may offer something small for you to hold onto between sessions:

  • a question

  • a reflection

  • a new boundary to try

  • a moment of self-compassion to practice

  • a truth you’re learning to claim

Not homework — but nourishment for the journey.

Strength and Softness, Together

You don’t have to choose between:

  • being capable, or

  • being cared for

Here, they are allowed to coexist.

We honour the strong parts of you, but we also make space for the parts that ache:

  • the part that wants rest

  • the part that longs to be held

  • the part that feels lost

  • the part that doesn’t want to be strong every day

You deserve support that doesn’t diminish your resilience — but doesn’t demand it, either.

Boundaries, Self-Respect, and the Life You Want

Our work often leads to clearer boundaries:

With others. With your habits. With work. With old stories. With versions of you that you’ve outgrown.

Boundaries are not walls; they are invitations to live more honestly.

Little by little, we shift from:

“What do others need from me?”to“What do I need to live aligned with myself?”

That is the essence of healing: a return to inner truth.

A Journey We Walk Together

I believe therapy is not a service; it is a relationship.

So throughout our time together, we regularly pause to reflect:

  • How are you feeling in this space?

  • What has shifted for you?

  • Where do we go from here?

We honour the process as it unfolds... with compassion, courage, and clarity.

If You’re Ready

If you are:

  • tired of holding everything alone

  • feeling lost or disconnected from who you are

  • carrying burdens that no one sees

  • searching for meaning or direction

  • longing to feel like yourself again

...then you are welcome here.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You only need to take one step.

Whenever you’re ready; I’ll meet you where you are.

You deserve a space to lay everything downand rebuild yourself gently.
